Victim Compensation
The state of North Carolina has a Victim Compensation program that reimburses citizens who suffer medical expenses and lost wages as the result of being a victim of crime. You may either contact the Victim Compensation Commission at 1.800.826.6200 for an application/information or United Family Services.
Who's Eligible? Except as excluded by law, a claim may be payable to:
the victim
a dependent of a deceased victim
a legal representative of a victim
a third person who provided benefits to the victim
United Family Services' Victim Assistance does not investigate, approve or pay Victim Compensation claims. As a nonprofit organization, United Family Services offers help to crime victims in applying to the Crime Victim Compensation Commission, which is administered through Victim and Justice Services of the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Provide a link with the Victim Compensation Program
Victim Compensation is designed to cover medical expenses, lost wages and/or replacement services (such as child care expenses). A maximum of $30,000 may be awarded except when the victim dies as a result of the crime. In this situation, an additional $3,500 can be paid to the survivors for funeral expenses.
