Crisis Intervention & Advocacy

Rape Crisis
Rape is a sudden, unexpected and violent act. Although it may or may not involve physical injuries, it always causes emotional distress. Rape is a crime.

If you are raped, you may experience...

shock and disbelief

fears about personal safety and vulnerability

anger

feelings of shame, guilt and humiliation

mood swings and depression

feelings of betrayal and loss of trust

changes in eating and sleeping patterns
Remember, your feelings and reactions may differ, but are still normal whether you experience them immediately or weeks or months later.

Help with Recovery

Recovering from rape is very similar to recovering from the death of a loved one. Talking to and sharing your feelings about your experience with someone who is supportive, open and knowledgeable about this issue can help in the recovery process. United Family Services' Rape Crisis program offers professional counseling for you and your family to help you return to a normal life.
