First Annual Avon Walk The Course Against Domestic Violence Draws More than 900 Walkers and Raises $25,000 for United Family Services
On April 28, more than 900 walkers participated in the inaugural Walk The Course Against Domestic Violence event at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. The participants had the choice of walking the 9-hole or 18-hole course during the Quail Hollow Championship Week. The event kicked off with an opening ceremony that featured local domestic violence survivors who shared their personal stories of overcoming abuse. “As a 34-year survivor of domestic violence, I am so thankful and excited to see this event taking place,” said Tana Greene. “More than ever, we need to raise awareness about this issue.” The event raised $25,000 for United Family Services’ Shelter for Battered Women. The family-friendly event was established by The Avon Foundation for Women, PGA Tour Wives Association and the Quail Hollow Championship. Avon Foundation for Women President Carol Kurzig thanked the Charlotte community for coming together to raise awareness and critical funds for area domestic violence programs. “Partnerships like these with the PGA Tour Wives Association and the Quail Hollow Championship enable us to make a significant difference in local communities, generating more resources for those who need them most and raising awareness throughout the area.” UFS would like to thank the Avon Foundation for Women, PGA Tour Wives Association and the Quail Hollow Championship for helping to end the cycle of domestic violence.
